Murali stated that Nuwan Kulasekara had done a great service for the country in the cricket field, but be it Kulasekara or anyone else, it is justified that SLC does not give them a spot in the team if they have failed to perform.
While admitting that Kulasekara was a good player and he is a very good person, Murali said however that Kulasekara had not been seen playing during the recent past and as such the SLC could not come to a decision
regarding his ability.
There is an accepted mechanism to select a player to the pool and as such, on what basis could SLC select Kulasekara to the national team, questioned Murali.
Having won two of the three matches against Bangladesh, one could argue that it is acceptable to grant Kulasekara a chance to play the final game, said Murali, adding that however, his personal view is that every international match is important for the country.
