Decision to close Ahangama Animal SOS

A group of animal activists had staged a protest opposite the Galle District Secretariat yesterday against a proposal being passed by the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha to close down the Animal SOS center which was operated in the Ahangama Midigama lagoon area.

The protestors claim that there are around 1,500 dogs currently being cared for at this center and they carry out rabies inoculation and sterilization at this center. They said that this is something that the government should do and instead of closing it down what the government needs to do is protect such facilities.

This center is run by a foreign lady as a non-governmental organization and a group of residents have also filed a case against this center.
