Evidence against Navy over Vidya murder!

Mahalingum Shashindran, a witness in the Vidya murder told the thee judge bench yesterday (28) that the Navy was responsible for the murder of Shivaloganathan Vidya.

He said this giving evidence before Chairman of the  three member bench Vavuniya High Court Judge Balendran Shashi Mahendran, Jaffna High Court Judge Manikkawasagar Illancheliyan  and Trincomalee High Court Judge Annalingam Premashankar.

Complaints and government evidence has been completed while the evidence of the defendants commenced yesterday (28).

The defendant told court that two females, Saradhambal and Dharshani were raped and murdered in Punguduthivu on two prior occasions, and that the Navy was responsible for these crimes.

Shashindran told the three member bench that the Navy had committed this crime and they had used the photographs and names of him and others and were trying to blame them for the crime committed by the Navy.

The CID previously told Court that the defendant was trying to put the blame on the Navy and was engaged in  building a  social smear campaign against the navy.

The nine defendants Poobalasingham Indrakumar, Poobalasingham Jeyakumar, Poobalasingham Thawakkumar, Mahalingam Shashindran, Thillenathan Chandrahasan, Sivadevan Dushanth (Periyambi), Palani Roopasingham Kugadasan, Jeyatharan Kokilan and Mahalingam Shashikumar (Swiss Kumar) were produced in the Court.

Deputy Solicitor General Kumar Ratnam, Government Attorneys Nishanth Nagaratnam, Laksi de Silva and malini Wigneshwaran appeared on behalf of the AG’s Department.

President’s Counsel Suranga Balasinghe and Mahinda Jayawardena appeared for defendants 01,02,03 and 06 while  Attorney Arumugam Ragupathipillai appeared for Defendant no. 05 and Attorney Sinnarasa Kediswaran appeared for Defendants no. 04,07,08 and 09. State Counsel Wignaraja Jayantha appeared for all nine defendants.

Shivaloganathan Vidya, 18, resident of 9th lane, Punguduthivu, Kytes, Jaffna was abducted while returning from school on May 13, 2015. She was raped and murdered.

The AG’s Department told the three judge bench that this murder was meticulously planned and committed.

For the first time a three judge bench was convened to hear this case according to the AG’s Department terms.
