State Minister of International Trade Sujeewa Senasinghe said that a leading Thai company has expressed willingness to establish this 600 acre industrial park in Horana shortly.
The preliminary measures have been taken to set the industrial zone and the ministry plans to sign the MOU with Thai company within the next two months.
The capacity of industrial park would be around 200 factories, he said pointing out that Japanese and Chinese investors are expected to set up their manufacturing plants there.
The industrial park in Horana has been made possible during state minister Sujeewa Senasinghe’s official visit to Thailand last year.
He extended an invitation to Amata Corporation, Thailand's leading industrial firm to invest in Sri Lanka while requesting Thai expertise to boost the country's industrial sector.
He noted that the government will be establishing industrial zones in an extent of 20,000 acres countrywide including 7,000 acres in Monaragala, 3,000 acres in Hambantota, 2,000 acres in Matara, 2,000 acres in Galle and 2,000 acres in Kalutara Districts.
200 plus Investors have already made investments in Sri Lanka up to July 2017.The ministry is planning to find Investors in Sri Lanka and 109 countries for, 950 plus industries with Investment Capacity ranging from Rs 460 thousand – Rs.8 billion.
