Colombo garbage to limestone pits in Puttalam - Champika

Megapolis minister Patali Champika Ranawaka says there is no truth to claims by some that the previous regime had finalized plans to dump the garbage being collected from Colombo at limestone pits at Aruwakkalu in Puttalam.

Cabinet approval for that programme was obtained only three months before the last presidential election, he told journalists at his ministry at Battaramulla today (20).

As it is a good plan, the present government is taking it forward, with the only change being that since the site chosen not suited as found in an environment impact assessment, a new one, still at Aruvakkalu, has been chosen, he added.
