UDA Financial Officer summoned before the Presidential Commission

The Financial Officer of the Urban Development Authority has been summoned before the Presidential Commission appointed to probe fraud and corruption in state institutions, today.

This is over allegations that the Neville Fernando Hospital not been taken over by the government legally and the government is spending money on it.

It has been established before the commission that the land on which the Neville Fernando Hospital is built upon belongs to the UDA.

According to a spokesman of the commission, the financial officer has been summoned to obtain evidence regarding this issue. This investigation is being carried out based on a complaint made by the Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) Dr. Haritha Aluthge alleging that the Neville Fernando Hospital had not been acquired legitimately by the government.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Sri Lanka Insurance Regulatory Commission is also scheduled to be summoned before the Commission regarding allegations of financial fraud in awarding the Suraksha insurance for school children.

Former Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksha had filed charges that Rs. 2,300 million had been fraudulently obtained during the process of providing ‘Suraksha’ insurance for students.

The current Secretary of the Highways Ministry and former Secretary of the Education Ministry Sunil Hettiarachchi is also scheduled to be summoned before the commission’s police unit regarding another case filed by Wijayadasa Rajapaksha.

This is with regard to the inclusion of Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam’s photograph being inserted into the 2018 school text books.

Meanwhile, the Registrar General has been notified to appear before the Police Unit of the Presidential Commission to give evidence regarding allegations against Rishad Bathiudeen that large amounts of lands had been purchased under the names of his relatives and their companies.

According to a spokesman of the commission, that are issues with regard to 68 deeds taken into the custody of the police unit of the commission.

Therefore, the Registrar General has been summoned to produce the factual data regarding these deeds.

The complaint against Rishad Bathiudeen has been filed by the Chief Monk of the Nugegoda Nalandaramaya Ven. Thiniyawala Palitha Thera.
