Dysfunctional Hingurakgoda X-Ray unit! Featured

The X-Ray unit at the Hingurakgoda Hospital which was declared open last August by President Maithripala Sirisena concurrent to the Pibidemu Polonnaruwa project, has been closed since the date of its opening.

This X-Ray unit was established under the financial grants of the Health Ministry for the development of the rural health services.

Due to the closure of this X-Ray services at the Hingurakgoda Hospital, patients are forced to travel 15-20 km to the Medirigiriya or Polonnaruwa hospitals for X-Ray services.

When contacted, the Hingurakgoda Hospital District Medical Officer Dr. Jagath Wimalaratne said although the President had opened this X-Ray unit, the hospital did not have adequate power supply to operate this machine.

He said that higher officials had been notified of this situation.

However, when contacted the Polonnaruwa District Health Director Dr. D.S.A. Jayasinghe said the reason for the closure of this unit is the lack of a technical officer to operate this machine.

He said if a technical officer is available, the unit can be operational even by tomorrow.
