Director gets 18.6 m jeep from JICA funds to Water Board Featured

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had given aid for the ‘Visal Mahanuwara’ water supply project and the Water Board Chairman had purchased a jeep worth Rs. 18.6 million, but it was later revealed that he had not purchased the said vehicle with these funds.

JICA had provided Rs. 7,146 million for the water supply project based on a request made in March 18, 2016, while 18.6 million was given to its main office for the purchase of a jeep.

However, the audit revealed that the jeep had not been purchased with the allocated funds.

Although Rs. 16.69 million has been spent for the inspection of the water resources and for the construction of a lab, as the Water Board had failed to provide the required trained officers for the lab, it had to be closed down.
