More rain to the North- Thousands affected (pics)

Due to the incessant rains in the Northern province resulting in floods, 54,819 persons belonging to 16,872 families have been affected, according to the DMC and security forces.

According to the DMC, Killinochchi, Mulaithivu, Mannar, Vavuniya and Jaffna districts have been affected by the floods and 38 shelters have been set up to house 11,299 persons belonging to 3,602 families.

The most number of affected persons were reported from the Killinochchi district with 33,008 persons belonging to 9975 families being affected, according to the Killinochchi district disaster management officials.

The displaced are being housed at 24 temporary shelters while 7849 persons belonging to 2,375 families are housed at these shelters.

The number of persons affected in the Mulaithivu district with 20,737 persons belonging to 6520 families being affected.

The displaced are being housed at 13 temporary shelters while 3,365 persons belonging to 1,200 families are housed at these shelters.

The number of persons affected in the Jaffna district with 708 persons belonging to 273 families being affected while in the Vavuniya district 281 persons belonging to 77 families have been affected.

The displaced are being housed at 13 temporary shelters while 3,365 persons belonging to 1,200 families are housed at these shelters.

 In Mannar, 85 persons belonging to 27 families have been affected and they are all housed at one temporary shelter.

The DMC officers and security forces personnel including 59 officers and 1019 other rankers are engaged in assisting the affected persons.

The Iranamadu tank sluice gates were opened and several smaller tanks had breached its banks causing flooding.

The Iranamadu tank spill level is 36 feet but the tank is currently at 38 feet. According to the DMC officers, Rs. One million each has been allocated to the Killinochchi, Mulaithivu, Jaffna, Mannar and Vavuniya District Secretariats for the affected.
