Rs. 1,293 m annual rental for armed forces buildings Featured

With a delay in the construction of the headquarters complex at Akuregoda in Battaramulla for the three armed forces, the rental of buildings from Colombo to house them temporarily is costing Rs. 1,293 million a year, reports say.

For the Army alone, 10 buildings with a total space of 555,036 square feet have been rented.

The construction of the headquarters complex is due to be completed by 30 June 2020, but only 60 per cent of the work on three prioritized building has been completed so far.

Of the total facility, not even 50 pc of the construction is complete yet.

The Rajapaksa regime sold the Galle Face land where the three armed forces were headquartered for the construction of Shangri-La Hotel.
