Interim order will stay in force till SC issues stay order - Saliya

President's Counsel Saliya Pieris has tweeted that an interim order of the Court of Appeal is not stayed merely because a party files an appeal in the Supreme Court.

'An interim order of the Court of Appeal remains in force until and unless a stay order is issued by the Supreme Court,' he adds.

The Appeal Court of Sri Lanka today (03) issued an interim order, restraining Prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Cabinet from functioning until the petition is heard.

Issuing a statement a few hours later, Mr. Rajapaksa said that they do not agree with the interim order and measures are already being taken to file a appeal before the Supreme Court first thing tomorrow.
