Dissanayake, Amaraweera move to protect SLFP Featured

Attempts are being made to avoid disadvantages to the SLFP from the coalition government between president Maithripala Sirisena and prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

They are being spearheaded by SLFP national organizer Duminda Dissanayake and UPFA general secretary Mahinda Amaraweera.

More than 20 key SLFP figures, including these two, had a lengthy meeting with Rajapaksa last night (08) regarding the harassment they and their electoral organizers are facing at the hands of the SLPP.

They strongly objected to a remark by SLPP secretary Sagara Kariyawasam that the party would contest future elections under the ‘flower bud’ symbol only.

Summoning SLPP founder Basil Rajapaksa at that juncture, PM Rajapaksa told him to tender an apology over Kariyawasam’s utterance.

Doing so, Basil Rajapaksa also promised that no such incident would occur in the future.

Agreement was also reached to discuss and resolve, after November 14, any issues of the two parties.
