Gota says will not accept position in interim govt Featured

Former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa says he will not accept any position in the present government which will function in the interim until such time a government gets elected.

A new cabinet should run the country while granting concessions to the people, and then a government should be formed with their consent, he told the media at the Hulftsdorp court complex in Colombo.

Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was there to attend a hearing at the magistrate’s court into the Avant Garde floating armoury matter.

Speaking further, he said no country would work under the influence of foreign interference.

He said parliament would be convened in accordance with the provisions in the constitution, and not at the instigation of foreign countries.

Mahinda Rajapaksa will run the country as the prime minister while Ranil Wickremesinghe will remain at Temple Trees, he said, adding that no legal action would be taken against him, as they were not involved in hate politics.
