Estate labour holds 2-hr protests daily (pics)

The labourers of the Staden Estate in Hatton staged a protest opposite the main office this morning (15) demanding a wage hike to Rs. 1000 per day.

The estate workers demanded that their daily wage of Rs. 530 be increased to rs.1000.

The protest is held every morning for two hours prior to commencement of their work based on a request made by the unions.

Although discussions were held between the landlords and the unions, these talks ended without reaching an agreement.

The two year agreement signed between the two parties regarding the wage increments had ended two months ago.

The landlords representing 23 companies had agreed to increase wages by 15%.
