(Mirror) – The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe today (06) said that the government should place before the country the reasons for taking a different stance at the UNHRC in 2009, than that taken during UNP rule of 2002-2004. Mr. Wickremesinghe was addressing a group of trade union activists and Organsers at Sirikotha headquarters.
The UNP always endeavours to solve the country’s problems within the countryand for that he was unafraid of being labeled a ‘ Tiger’.
He asked the government to think about the people and country when discussions pertaining to Sri Lanka were taking place at the UNHRC sessions in Geneva , instead of seeking to politicize them.
He said he was not seeking an ‘Arab Spring’ here, and his desire was to ensurenthat there was a atmosphere of goodwill where the Sinhala and THindu new year could be celebrated.
Therefore was a a national election needed to change the government, and in that struggle to obtain a national election, neither was the halal issue or Araba Spring relevant or necessary, Mr. Wickremesainghe said.
