(Mirror) - Minister of Sports, Mahindananda Aluthgamage says that regulations preventing politicians from contesting at sports administrative bodies, will be introduced soon.

He added that advice of the Attorney General is already being sought on the matter.

He said thus while presenting regulations for the debate to approve amendments to the Sports Act, in Parliament yesterday (05).

The minister said that laying down these rules have been constrained due to a Supreme Court ruling on a case filed by Arjuna Ranatunga.
The minister further noted that personally, he does not favour politicians becoming officials in sports bodies.

Meanwhile, ‘Mirror’ learns that Minister Aluthgamage has held talks with persons from several fields to prevent politicians from contesting in elections of sports administrative bodies.
