(Mirror) - Veteran singer Nihal Nelson has reached the 50th year of his musical career.
To mark this milestone, a musical programme ‘Wasara 50i Nihal Awith’ will be held at the Musaeus College Auditorium at 6.00pm on March 15.
Presented by Thilak Kumara Rathnayake, the evening will be filled with the music of the Sunflower Band.
Nihal Nelson, who made his debut through the hit track ‘Lassanata Pipunu Wanamal’, has released 112 albums since then.
An old boy of Moratuwa Rawathawaththa Mixed School, Nihal entered the music field through the influences of A.J. Kareem.
Seeing Nihal sing at a wedding, A.J. Kareem gave created an opportunity for him to perform at the Kandy Lake Club.
Later, Nihal also appeared in several radio programmes after Karunaratne Abeysekera spotted Nihal’s talent for presenting.
‘Lassanata Pipunu Wanamal’ was first aired on 1963 March 31.
Nihal’s approaching musical night was announced at a press briefing at the Borella Namel Malini Punchi theatre yesterday (28).
Many prominent personalities from the fields of music and media attended the event.
